Don't you just HATE when human skulls gets caught in your vacuum?

Every now and then, I've used some "high level" profanity in this comic.

There haven't really been complaints about it, but I'm starting to wonder what people think about it.

I, personally, don't care one bit. I consider profanity nothing more than communication to convey frustration. I find the sounds meaningless and the avoidance of the words pointless. I only have a problem with people shouting them out repeatedly and redundantly, which I feel is just abusing the effect of the words to seek for attention.

Having said that, I am aware that many people on this planet disagree strongly with that, and therefore I would like to know whether the occasional use of profanity in this comic is a problem for readers.

Seeing how, so far, there hasn't been a big deal about the usage of the words, I trust this won't be an issue, but I'll say this just in case:
Please direct your opinion to Djoing and me, and not to each other. This topic relates to freedom of speech, religion, and raising children, among other things. I don't want this to turn into a fight about any of that.

@The_mad_one: Honestly, yes, the use of "high-level" profanity has made me shiver once or twice.

For a comic that had a great number of people watching, and the fact that this comic isn't intended for just the adults or whatever, it's kinda inappropriate if you keep using those words.

Reply Sapar, February 1st, 2014, 12:12 pm

@The_mad_one: Personally, I don't care when others use "the naughty words," I just don't say then myself.

Reply Alienoid, February 1st, 2014, 12:16 pm

@The_mad_one: I really don't mind the use of profanity, personally. I just don't speak it myself very often.

Reply 1ce_k1d, February 1st, 2014, 12:17 pm

I don't mind it to much (if at all).
Just don't over do it.

Reply witswithme, February 1st, 2014, 12:41 pm

I personally don't like swearing period. @The_mad_one: I just don't.
But I'm also not one to rant every time I see a curse word. What'd be the point in doing that?
But...try and do your best to cap that lid, please.
'Cause I curse if I'm in the middle of an extreme rant, so I know how THAT feels...

Reply DarkCore, February 1st, 2014, 1:12 pm

I don't mind any profanity. I don't do it myself. I would consider the use of profanity something that shouldn't be overdone. It detracts from the comic; it's unique because it doesn't contain swearing everywhere. You instead used to use funny ways of putting your anger, so I personally prefer it when you didn't use profanity.

Reply NikNW, February 1st, 2014, 1:13 pm

@The_mad_one: I don't really care if profanity is used, as long as it isn't being abused for no reason.

Reply kmarwx, February 1st, 2014, 1:14 pm

It really depends on what you think is best, but some people might not like how you vent frustration. I do have to say I was a bit surprised the first time it came up, but since then it's become less jarring. I personally don't have a problem with it, but just do what you think is best based on what others decide.

However, at the same time, I would prefer that you not devolve into strings of profanity in order to vent frustration. I just think it's stupid to overuse that kind of language because it's really immature to just open the floodgates to that kind of stuff, and it could potentially turn readers away. Just keep that in mind if you decide not to censor/replace it in the future.

Reply Shadow_Da_Hedgie, February 1st, 2014, 1:37 pm

@The_mad_one: *shrug* I don't really care. I try not to use it, but if someone else wants to use it, as long as they aren't using it to insult someone, why not?

Reply Luigi_96, February 1st, 2014, 1:39 pm

@The_mad_one: Considering it hasn't happened much until now, I've been hoping it's just a one-time thing that you won't keep doing. Because too much profanity can, and has, made me stop reading comics (Case in point: Mokepon). I definitely want to keep reading this, but I for one will stop and unfave it if the language becomes too bad.

Reply The_mad_one, February 1st, 2014, 2:59 pm

Thanks for all the feedback so far!

Since a notable percentage of you has mentioned not liking the profanity, and the words don't add anything at all, we're editing it out now.

Next page's author comment will go into some slight more specifics, but suffice to say we're removing or replacing all uses of the full words "fuck" and "shit" from the pages. Partial usages like fu- are staying, as they are as good as censored as is.

Ps: Go away Tico, your presence is not tolerated. Go kick old ladies or dye your hair purple or something and take a picture of it and put it on your twitter and then go and run in circles tossing profanity around that turns into banana peels and you slip on them.

Pps: This additional message applies to Tico, and not to anyone else who might have the opinion Tico posted for real.

Reply Master_72, February 1st, 2014, 4:57 pm

Okay, as much as I want to engage in the ridiculous exchange at hand, I'm just going to post a small remark.

As of the other people here, I don't mind the swearing. In fact, I use it myself sometimes just to convey a message or in the Let's Vent thread. Now, as a long-time reader, I've noticed your use of swear words and I honestly find them amusing as they fit the context generally given to this comic. If your run is normal, you'll pop a few jokes and continue on. If you get really frustrated at something, you'll use a swear word because it's your run and you'll do it if you want to. I'm not saying to just go wild, but a swear word every two stages or so won't affect me in the least.

People have their own ways of demonstrating anger. Some go in the corner, cross their arms and pout. Some throw a tantrum, some deal with it and some ragequit. If swearing is your or DJ's way of showing anger or frustration then I'm disappointed in the community of commenters for not accepting that and forcing you to change it. In all honesty, I've heard seven year olds swear, and I can generally agree that everybody here is over 10
And understands the signification of the words, so I don't see why we all just don't laugh along or shrug it off, I mean, we're all cool, right?

If you have a problem with this you can Get the Fuck out.

Reply Djoing, February 1st, 2014, 5:03 pm

Just to clarify, I hardly ever swear.

Reply Blue Kirby the l33t, February 1st, 2014, 5:19 pm

@The_mad_one: I personally hate swearing of any kind.

Reply The_mad_one, February 1st, 2014, 5:30 pm

@Master_72: Although I respect your opinion and for the most part even agree with it, I disagree with your last line. I don't think it's fair to deny people this comic.

It's clear that some people, although they don't complain, are uncomfortable with these two words.

No one has forced us to change it, we're doing this on our own initiative. We want this comic to be fun for everyone, and it is a very weird but undeniable fact that these words have a negative effect on many people. Reading the reactions here, it's clear that a sizeable portion of this comic's readers are among those people.

Ps: The comedic efect of using these words is easily achievable with other words. For example, on one page we've replaced fucking with fricken'.

Reply Master_72, February 1st, 2014, 5:39 pm

@The_mad_one: i didn't mean to get out of the comic, I just meant it in a general way as "if you have a problem with this remark/opinion, you are not obliged to throw yourself in this debate and reply".

As for your other points, I don't approve of the message on an insulting level, I only approve of it on a "rawr I'm really angry at this boss so I'm going to swear a bit to vent my frustration". If some people are uncomfortable with the words because they have been insulted with them beforehand then I am sorry for siding with keeping the profanity, but in general you're going to hear it a lot, be it in real life or the internet in general. Please don't judge this comic by a simple word and stop reading. If you do, then you're missing the main premise of this playthrough documentation:

Megaman games are interesting and fun. Watch our reaction to them.

Reply youdont12know, February 2nd, 2014, 4:32 am

I never cared about swearing, but I do care about other peoples feelings so I think censorship is fine if it's what you feel you hould do.
(I've also kinda started censoring myself, say a random collection of words when I feel like sweaing(Except for the irst swear you mentioned, which I pretty consistently swap out with flip.).)It works for me, and I'd suggest it to anybody having trouble stopping swearing (Even if you sound kinda dumb, that's better then sounding like a bum)

@The_mad_one: I agree with you. Words mean things, and those words mean no more things then other words.
