I have a lot of trouble with this pattern. there's three things I need to concentrate on, and I can usually only remember two.

So the issues being:

÷ We could only dodge from between those pipe things
÷ He's invincible after his shot so we have to hit him before his shot
÷ There was not enough time to both turns around to shoot him and reach those pipe things

The not enough time thing was solved by this extra slide. Of course, we could've dodged his tops with the slide, but that didn't occur to us.

The slide is new for us, okay? D:

wow, just wow,
and will you be showing "super cheerful game-over music " every time you get a game over?

Reply Striffen Cloud, June 5th, 2011, 12:09 pm

These games are actually a lot easier on an actual NES than a computer, no matter how used to the controls you get.

Not that I have a point, just thought I'd bring it up.

I wonder how many time's that brentalfloss video will be linked by the end of the game.

^ Over 9000 if they can't kill Shadow Man

Reply The_mad_one, June 5th, 2011, 3:18 pm

@ Zak TH: It's at 1.5 per game over at this time, past games show an average of about 40 game overs per game, so that suggests about 60 times. :3

Course, both these numbers come from only 2 scenarios, making them highly untrustworthy.

You know, that game over music could actually be a clever ploy by Wily.

Because you see, the fact that you get happy music when you die, is kind of creepy.

And if you keep dying, that creepy music will keep returning and drive you insane.

Of course, it will have no affect on TMO. Or people that have already been affected, like me!

I'm guessing Mad typed Djoing Death 4 and the caption above it.

Or Djoing is talking in the 3rd person.

At least you remembered the slide existed. That thing can be taken for granted when it comes to dodging attacks so very easily.

Reply kaijinzero, June 5th, 2011, 11:06 pm

i bet pinkie pie would love to just keep dying to listen to.....oh god, someones gonna try and pinkify it, i just know it.

but yeah, its overly cheerful.

Ok Top Man Guide:

Stand close to him when he shoots the tops into the air. So you can easily avoid them and also give him damage.

When he starts to spin, jump when he starts to move.

Continue it and you feel fine. :)

I think Capcom KNEW that this game is so hard you'd get Game Overs so they made the Game Over music happy to encourage you to keep playing.

Also, alternate version: SCOUT IS GAME OVER!

Reply Luxbot, June 6th, 2011, 12:23 pm

Also, I used the slide to dodge the tops. Then turned around and shot him. I also shot him WHILE he was summoning the tops. So here's the order.

Topman makes tops.
I rapidly shoot him.
Topman shoots tops.
I dodge. (Slide)
I turn around and shoot for a few seconds.
Topman spins.
He charges at me.
I dodge. (Jump)

@kajinzero I think you're right. Now that you mentioned it, someone might try that. (maybe me)

@NoahTH: Back then I'd be all like OH NO.

But now I'd be like OH YEAH
